The little disco company has come to an end - after 6 years of family disco fun. Time moves on, life moves on. I would like to thank everyone who joined in, danced, played with their children to our fun tunes, had a drink at the bar and told other people about us.
It's been an incredible journey, started with 2 new mums finding someting to 'fit' around family life...
Thanks a lot for your energy and time - we really do appreciate it!
The founders of The Little Disco Company are Kate (left) and Clare (right). Long time residents of South East London, friends and business partners with a mutual love of music and good times, they decided to form The Little Disco Company in 2013. Keen to know more...?
So where did the idea for Little Disco come from?
K: Since having kids, our idea of what constituted a good weekend changed slightly…. No more wandering around the great museums, galleries and shops that London has to offer, followed by a lazy pub lunch. We started looking out for alternative fun things to do as a family. We didn't find much to be honest, so we decided to create a fun local weekend activity that allowed families to spend time together. To share a fun, energetic activity that most of all could be could be enjoyed inside during the winter months.
C: After our first couple of Little Disco events, the enquiries for birthday parties started to flood in and the business has continued growing in both directions.
What do you love most about running the Little Disco Company?
K: Working with my best friend and doing something that I absolutely love!
C: Ahhhh, Kate! Yes it’s great fun working with someone you know so well, as we’re always on the same wavelength. We’re really lucky. I get such a kick out of watching people at our parties having a great time.
C: That’s a tough one….. I would have to say that I am a dance music lover at heart and “Lola’s Theme” by Shapeshifters brings back some great memories, but being silly to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” never fails to get the kids dancing, including my own.
So what’s been your favourite Little Disco event to date and why?
K: For me it has to be our first Junior Disco in Dulwich in 2014. Our juniors really let go and rocked the roof off that evening! So much energy!
C: For me, it was last year’s Halloween Discos at the Ivy House in Nunhead. We had three discos back to back, each one filled with little witches, wizards and some amazing costumes. Such a talented bunch of parents. I can't wait for this year's Halloween Discos.
What’s your top kids birthday party tip?
K: You have to have a great playlist lined up!
C: And you always need to have a spare! Spare sweets, spare prizes, spare giveaways, spare party bags. Keep these hidden away as you never know if you might to console a crying child, or cater for an extra sibling.
And when you’re not working at the weekends, what is your top weekend hangout?
C: My favourite meal of the week is Brunch. Pancakes to be precise. You can often find us at Jam Circus in Brockley or The Lido Café in Brockwell Park eating pancakes.
K: The Bussey Building in Peckham. Peckham is such a cool place to be right now and there are always great events happening there at the weekend.
